Version 2.3

2.3 adds a new setup wizard which allows you to configure your Google Voice settings and mobile phones directly from within GV.

Version 2.2

New functionality in 2.2:

  • Voicemail transcripts
  • Full SMS support (conversations, replying, much better composition view, etc).
  • Faster loading
  • Recursive loading of voicemail, call logs, SMS
  • Delete call log entries

Version 2.1

Version 2.1 added some new functionality to 2.0.

  • Restored callback dialing. Due to user feedback, I revamped and restored the callback method of initiating a call. This works when calling from GV as well as when GV is set to route all calls through Google Voice.

Version 2.0

Version 2.0 of GV was a huge revamping effort. As a result, a lot of the application has been re-thought, retooled, and redesigned since 1.x. Here's a quick summary:

  • Better integration with the device. As of 2.0, you can simply toggle whether or not you want GV to automatically route all outgoing calls through Google Voice. If this option is enabled, virtually every call you make will be routed through Google Voice, automatically. The only exceptions to this rule are emergency calls and calls to your voicemail. If you choose to not enable this setting, only calls which originate from within the GV application itself will be routed through Google Voice--all other calls will be made via your normal carrier.
  • No more call-back method. For 2.0, I've removed the option to have a call-back method of making outgoing calls. Due to limitations in the Android design (which make complete sense; I'm not bashing the design), the call-back method will not work for phone integration. If there is significant demand, I may bring it back for a future release.
  • PIN support. GV now supports having your PIN required (or not, depending on your preference). Simply set this in the Settings page.
  • Better voicemail. The voicemail page has been totally redesigned. Due to limitations in the Android platform, voicemails can not be played out of the earpiece speaker--only through the speakerphone or over bluetooth.
  • New icon. The program got a facelift in the form of a new icon. Thanks to everyone who sent in their suggestions!

Note: Since I have removed the callback method of initiating a call, the only way to start a call is the following: Your Google Voice number will automatically be called. Then, if set, your PIN will automatically be entered. Next, "2" will automatically be selected and the new number entered. Finally, "#" will be pressed and your call will start. To understand how this all works, please try dialing your own Google Voice number. Another thing to note is that you will hear the automated system in the background--this is perfectly normal. Just ignore the voice; everything should work just fine.
